What is Botox? Botox is a brand name for the most popular botulinum toxin (type A) in the market. Botolinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is a prescription medicine that is injected in to the muscles.
Are there different types of toxins? Yes there are a few botulinum toxins available in the UK.
What toxin is used for my treatment at Hampton Aesthetic Clinic? We will use the BOTOX Cosmetic brand by Allergan which is the only neuro toxin brand to receive approval of aesthetic indications beyond the frown lines. It is the most widely researched and studied treatment of its kind, approved for use in 96 countries. The safety and efficacy of BOTOX® Cosmetic has been described in more than 495 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals. It is the market leader with about 90% of the treatment targeting the upper face.
What is it used for? Botox is approved to be used for a variety of reasons like headaches, bladder problems, some muscle problems, excessive sweating as well as to improve the look of moderate to severe facial wrinkles.
At Hampton Aesthetic Clinic, we can treat a wide variety of concerns with Botox: Please note that you need a face to face appointment for a consultation
What does it do to wrinkles? Botox can be used to treat all wrinkles which are the result of normal facial movement. When it is injected into a specific muscle in the face, it blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscle. This means that the nerve ending cannot tell the muscle to move, hence there will be less wrinkling of the skin in the areas treated. You will have a smooth appearance than before. So in simple terms, Botox helps to relax the muscles being treated.
Who will give me Botox at Hampton Aesthetic Clinic? Is he/she medically qualified and insured? You will always be treated by Dr Pri who is an experienced medical doctor trained in aesthetics. He has over 20 years’ experience working for the NHS and private practice across the UK. He is qualified from leading aesthetic institutions to carry out basic, advanced and masterclass techniques for facial rejuvenation. He is also fully insured to carry out aesthetic procedures.
What is my Botox appointment like at Hampton Aesthetic Clinic? When you initially make the appointment, we will send you the consultation form that you fill online, so that the doctor can assess your suitability for the procedure. The doctor will go through this form with you at your consultation appointment, thoroughly assessing whether this treatment can be prescribed to you. If you are suitable, you will also get some instructions on how to prepare for the appointment. For example, we will ask you to avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours prior to the procedure.
Once you come for the treatment, you can discuss what your concerns are and what you want to achieve and ask any questions you have for the last time, before going ahead with the procedure. He will then assess your face again, take some photos before the procedure for insurance purposes. You will be looked after by an assistant at times who will make sure any make up is removed and the area is properly cleansed. The injections will be given to you with minimal discomfort as possible. Once it’s over, we will apply some arnica gel to further minimise any bruising. You will be given Aftercare advice and make sure you understand everything.
Is the procedure painful? No! It will just feel like some tiny pinches and it will be over before you know it. When correctly injected, it should not be painful.
How long does the procedure take? The procedure itself only takes less than 15 minutes. But your Botox appointment is for half an hour so you can have the consultation and discuss needs and prepare for the appointment fully and the procedure will never be rushed.
How long does it take to recover from the procedure? There is no recovery time for Botox but there are few things you need to do to look after yourself a few hours after. We will provide you with the Aftercare information and explain everything you need to do.
Do I feel any different after having Botox? No, but you may feel the area been treated a little tighter than before but in a good way.
What are the side effects? Botox injections are relatively safe but there are minor side effects like headaches, pain, swelling and bruising at the injection site for some people. Most of these should only last a few hours or a few days. Most people have no side effects at all. To minimise bruising, we advise clients to avoid alcohol and certain vitamins and drugs and also apply ice and arnica on the day of the procedure.
How long will the results last? The results will last for 3-4 months usually but depend on your life style and metabolic factors. For some people it may last longer.
Will I look unnatural and fake? No. BOTOX is a technique-sensitive treatment. Botox will deliver subtle results when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. You will look like yourself but a few years younger and refreshed if anything with less visible wrinkles!
Will my wrinkles be worse if I don’t do it again? No. The wrinkles will just go back to how they were originally. So there are no negative effects if you don’t keep up with it or stop having it.
Are there any long term effects of having Botox? The effects of Botox are temporary and there are no major long term effects that have been studied extensively. Usually most require less Botox overtime for maintenance as the muscles weaken over time. Study in 2015 has shown that the treatment will be more effective if used repeatedly. However if you have it too regularly before it is due within 3 months, you may develop resistance to it. So it is important you get your Botox done as prescribed by your cosmetic doctor.
What age is the best to start having Botox? We will only treat people over 18 years of age. Some people use it as a preventative measure for wrinkling but we recommend that you only get treated when you have wrinkles and you can gauge its effectiveness better that way.
Can anyone have Botox? No. You always need to go through a medical questionnaire with a professional to check the suitability of the procedure before you can be prescribed Botox.
Can I just come for a consultation? Yes, we offer free no obligation consultations so you can discuss all your concerns and check suitability. You can then take your time to think whether to go ahead with having the procedure or not.
How much does it cost? The price depends on the number of areas being treated. The frown line is counted as one area, so is crow’s feet on both eyes. To treat the upper face three areas, which is the most popular treatment we do, you will be treated for the frown line, forehead lines and crow’s feet. That treatment will cost you £250. In addition, if you also want to get your bunny lines treated for example, you pay an extra £50. The price list can be seen on the booking link above for the relevant clinic location.
